Historic Jamestowne

Description:

Nowhere else can you actually feel life in a Powhattan village, an English fort, or on a perilous 16th century Atlantic Crossing. Jamestown Settlement allows you to have all of these experiences and more in a beautiful setting off the James River. The museum itself is gorgeously decorated, and you will literally find yourself strolling down a cobblestone street in Elizabethan England. Lavish multimedia exhibits catalogue life of all of the original peoples including English colonists, Powhatan natives, and African slaves. Make your way into the settlers fort, where the kids can try on armor and re-enactors can step you through daily life on the fringe of civilization. Down the path, you encounter the wigwams of a Powhatan village, where you can ask villagers how the routines of daily survival. Most stunning of all are the exact replicas of the original ships in which the colonists traveled: Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery. As you step aboard, you realize how hard life was.
